Newspaper article “President Sarkozy loves fruit from the Markgräflerland” Martin Egel is the owner of a new fruit company “Edel-Kirsche” established in 2009 in Auggen. At the moment the company is building new processing facilities in Auggen. This is world-wide advertisement for Markgräflerland.
The word “Edel” in the logo of the company can also be read as “Egel”. Owner of the company is Martin Egel. He originally comes from Müllheim but lives in Monaco. The company’s headquarters are in Auggen, am Erzbuck 10. A new facility, a big hall of 200 square meters is being constructed in Auggen, on the territory of the administrator. The hall will be used for processing and storage. Martin Egel set up his fruit firm “Edel-Kirsche - Royal Fruits from the Markgräflerland” last year.
Clients from Paris, Moscow, London and Cote d’Azur have already tasted and appreciated the high quality of the brand and gave to the owner the idea to name the company “Edel-Kirsche” or else “Noble-cherries”. This season’s production is estimated to 70-80 tons, weather permitting. A part of it will be sweet cherries and the rest sour cherries (used for cherry jams and spirits). The production is expected to rise in the years to come. More than 10.000 new cherry trees were planted doubling thus the total number of trees. When in 3 years they are ready to blossom, then the number of the 15 seasonal workers should mount to thirty, said Mr Egel.
The firm administrator, Mr Reiner Leininger, has even created a new variety “Carla”. The name was given in honour of Carla Bruni, the First Lady of France. Mrs Bruni’s mother , a pianist, used to accompany Mr Egel at his “Lieder” concerts during his opera career as a singer. It goes without saying of course that the circle of the french President have all appreciated the taste of the “Edel-Kirsche”.
Cherries reign in the “Edel-Kirsche” in Auggen but other royal fruits are also produced. Apples, pears, mirabelle prunes and plums. The alcoholic spirits are produced by a company in Lahr, the apple-pear juices by Markus Kammerer in Müllheim-Feldberg. The fruit juices are without any additives. No sugar, water or preservation additives. They are sold in 5-liter packages. Sealed, they last 2 years. Once opened, they should be consumed within three months, explains Martin Egel who is happy to have met Mr Kammerer by chance.
At the end of March the Internet portal will be ready. Under “shopping” you can find among other products gilded cherry stones for table decoration. According to the company’s owner, the idea came up from Russian clients. “Edel-Kirsche” sells also “Champaqua”, a fizzy drink without any alcohol (coming from Portugal) and fruit Syrups from a swiss firm.
